Book Review: ‘Enchantment’

Jun. 24th 2011

OK, Guy Kawasaki is one of my online buddies, but he’s under suspicion. He’s of Asian decent, born in Hawaii, lives in California and plays hockey. If that’s not suspicious, I don’t know what is! ;-)

I loved his new book ‘Enchantment’  but instead of me blathering on about it, here’s a really cool summary of his book. A worthy read, IMO. =Al

Leadership Lessons from ‘The King of the World’

By Al Morel

These days, when I go to the movies and plunk down 20 or so dollars, my expectation is that this event will change my life somehow.  I can’t say that James Cameron’s Avatar did that for me. It seemed somewhat trite and frankly, I was bored after the first two hours of special effects.

With that said, I’m always interested in leadership so this blog post on the Harvard Business Review website caught my eye. Firing Is Too Merciful: How James Cameron Leads is a synopsis of a new book by the author Rebecca Keegan, who wrote,  The Futurist: The Life and Films of James Cameron.

Here are some of the primary take aways:

  • Break New Ground
  • Firing Is Too Merciful
  • Lead from the Front
  • Good Enough Isn’t
  • Hire People People

One of the really amazing things about the internet is you can meet some incredible people. Derek Sivers is one of those people.  Haven’t heard of Derek? Here’s some info.

Below is a video that Eric used as part of a presentation at the recent TED Conference.

It’s a 3 minute parable on leadership, followship, and creating a movement.
